Habits that make you happier at work

When it comes to work, many of us want to be a little happier. But switching jobs, switching bosses, or simply finding more joy between all the tasks on our daily to-do list often feels out of our reach. Many people are so busy that we are just trying to keep our heads above water. We don't have the time, let alone energy, to improve our current situation.

But what if there was a way to start doing more of what you do best every day, no matter what your job description or your boss might say? A growing body of research suggests that developing your strengths—the things you are good at and enjoy—can give you a sense of confidence, energy, and fun at work. The key is to create daily habits that make you happier.

Creativity
Each day when you wake up, spend 10 minutes trying to best solve any problems you encounter and then review as many creative solutions as you can before identifying one to try that day.

Hope
Every morning when you go to get your morning coffee, take 10 minutes to stop by one of your more hopeful colleagues and see what they are excited about at that moment. Then get your coffee.

Dedication
When you're at work, check your to-do list to make sure you can still complete each of the tasks. If changes need to be made, update all involved so they know they can rely on your word and plan. Your reward can be something as simple as a cup of green tea.

Learn
When you're sitting in front of your computer in the morning, watch a 10-minute video that teaches you something new, then post what you've learned on social media.

Social Intelligence
When it's lunchtime, sit down in the cafeteria and take the time to have a meaningful conversation with a colleague by asking genuine questions about how things are going/what's going well. Celebrate by eating your lunch.
