Late for an HR interview… How to get out of it?

Remember to notify the HR department

Most recruiters can tolerate a ten minute delay. Beyond that, it can really become problematic and be considered a lack of seriousness. Of course, this can happen to anyone. It's really bad luck, but sometimes fate is against us! To avoid appearing to be disrespectful or to be airheaded, it is better to warn your recruiter before the HR interview. Send him a message as soon as possible, email or SMS, or call the company directly to explain your delay. And in this case, it is better to be honest and say that you will arrive in thirty minutes rather than affirming your arrival in five minutes and making people wait again. You are not obliged to specify the cause of your delay. If it is a wake-up failure, it is better to avoid talking about it! But if it is because of an incident in public transport, the explanation can be quite admissible!

What to do if you are very late for your job interview?

If you are more than half an hour or even an hour late for your HR interview, things get a little complicated. You might be tempted to backtrack and give up on this position. But think again! You must always go to the end and not give up before having tried everything! If you go to the location of the job interview, you will be able to make a new appointment. And the recruiter will see how motivated you are! On the other hand, don't be too demanding about the new schedule... Another tip:if you arrive very late, don't show a big smile, as if nothing had happened. Always apologize. Otherwise, the recruiter will think that the job does not really interest you.

Managing a shorter HR interview because of the delay

It is also possible that the recruiter offers you to take the HR interview anyway. If so, ask him how much time he can devote to you. You may not cover all aspects of your profile and the position. But you can also offer to continue the interview with another person, or arrange a telephone meeting. Sometimes, we have waited so long for this job interview that we can apologize for several minutes for our delay. Be careful not to overdo it! So much fervor could annoy your recruiter. Be aware that it is not recommended to arrive too early. So, a tip:set two alarm clocks in the morning, take a little head start, and walk if you have time in front of you. Who knows, we might call you back!
