Labour:women with disabilities more discriminated against

A "double discrimination". This is the expression used by Jacques Toubon, the Defender of Rights, in his report entitled "Employment of women with disabilities", published this Monday, November 14 as part of the 20th Employment Week for People with Disabilities .

Disabled women are therefore more discriminated against than men in the world of work. "Gender, like the situation of disability, has consequences on the educational path and therefore on the professional integration of job candidates", specifies the report.

Making women with disabilities visible

At issue in particular? The few women with disabilities representing recognized models of success. They "seem totally absent from many spheres of society (where disabled men themselves are rare) without this being an issue:media, politics, business, arts etc. says the report.

To combat this reality, the Defender of Rights issues 12 recommendations, including the promotion of successful models to facilitate the positive identification of women with disabilities. Other axes such as the harmonization of the definition of the handicap within the various studies, the reinforcement of the accessibility of schooling and higher education or the development of targeted and adapted prevention campaigns, are also developed. /P>
